絵本ホテルでは、この素晴らしい地域環境を次の世代に引き継ぐためにさまざまな取組みを行っています。

EHON HOTEL carries out a variety of initiatives to continue a wonderful neighbor environment to the next generation.

遠い国からCO2を使って運ばれてきた食品よりも、ご近所で育てられた食材、ご近所で調理された食事をいただくことこそ環境負荷を低減することにつながる。私達はそう考えます。奈良で頑張る生産者さん、飲食店さん、配送業者さんとも連携し、季節の美味しさを小さなフードマイレージでご提供します。絵本ホテルは決してレストランではありませんが、少しでも奈良の味を楽しんでいただきたいと思います。

We believe that eating locally grown vegetables and locally produced food reduces environmental loads such as CO2 compared with consuming food brought in from foreign countries. Our partners are local farmers, restaurants, and delivery services who run business in Nara to deliver the joy of seasonal food and drink with reduced food miles. EHON HOTEL is not a restaurant but a concierge who introduces guests the taste of local food.

同じことが木材にも言えます。北米や東南アジアからエネルギーを大量に消費しながら木材を輸入することで、国内の林業を疲弊させ、荒廃林は保水力を落とし自然治癒力の低下につながります。吉野杉、吉野檜を使うだけでなく、裏山（赤膚山）の桜枯木をDIYでドアハンドルに仕上げました。

The same concept applies to our interior. Importing wood from North America and Southeastern Asia results in excessive energy consumption for transportation and the serious decline of Japanese forest industry. This also led forests in Japan uncontrolled condition and the loss of their water-retaining capacity, which deteriorates natural healing power. We used cedar and cypress produced in Yoshino, located in the southern part of Nara. Hotel staff crafted door handles made of dry cherry timbers collected at the neighboring mountain (Akahadayama).

林野庁の公務員宿舎であった建物は1985年に建築されました。この建物を建替えて絵本ホテルをつくるのに比べ、リノベーションではCO2排出量は1/33、廃棄物排出量は1/22です。私達は迷わずリノベーションを選択しました。

The building of EHON HOTEL, built in 1985, used to be a dormitory for the Forestry Agency workers. Compared to constructing a new building, remodeling the existing building generates less CO2 and wastes 1/33 and 1/22, respectively. We definitely chose renovation.

絵本ホテルはサービス提供者であると同時に消費者でもあります。障害福祉事業をされている、びぃとぅぎゃざーと協働し、障がいのある方々と健常者が一緒に室内クリーニングや洗濯などの仕事を心を込めて行ない、皆さんのご利用をお待ちしています。

To be an ethical service consumer, EHON HOTEL use services provided by a welfare facility for people with disabilities, BE TOGETHER. Staff with/without disabilities cooperatively clean our rooms and wash bed linens with care.

電力供給会社とは太陽光発電、風力発電など再生可能エネルギーを契約し、また照明器具はもちろん全てLEDでエネルギー消費を抑えています。

We use an electric provider which supplies renewable energy such as solar power and wind power. All light fixtures are, of course, LED lights to reduce energy consumption. 

国有林である赤膚山の緑や土といった自然に恵まれたこの地域には、小堀遠州も愛した「赤膚焼」という伝統産業が今でも生きています。林野庁さんの山林保護活動に賛同し、また素晴らしい陶芸体験のご提供を通じて地域に貢献します。

The neighbor area of EHON HOTEL is rich in the green of national forest and clay from Akahadayama (Mt. Akahada). The area is famous for the traditional pottery, Akahada ware which was loved by Kobori Enshu, a notable artist and aristocrat in 17^thcentury. We support nature preserve activities held by the Forestry Agency and organize pottery experiences to back up local community.
